Tapetum Lucidum

January 13th
I was really tired, trying to pack up my room (how on earth did I bring back to school almost 2x as much as I took home??), and had no idea what to take a picture of. Sorry for the lack of an exciting picture.

I was literally running around the house at about 11:30 pm, saying, I need a picture of the day; help!! Alexis was trying to come up with an idea, when I decided the picture should be of Emmy. I positioned her perfectly at the top of the stairs, with her paws hanging over the top stair. It was adorable. The perfect picture. Until Alexis distracted my cute subject by petting her. Emmy jumped up, walked away, and got on the bed, where she is in this picture. Emmy really doesn't like the camera, and she turns her head away when she sees it. I love this picture because her tapeta lucida are glowing. No, tapetum lucidum is not a Harry Potter spell, but is in fact a tissue layer in animals' eyes that reflects light back through the retina. Example: deer in the headlights. It helps animals see in low light and at night. The tissue is a beautiful metallic blue-green in sheep's eyes.

Do you think this was taken with my phone or camera? Spotted the icicle as I was walking down the aisle and knew it had to be my photo of the day.

Sunset behind the barn. I went running for my camera when I saw it. Sadly didn't get any pictures of our horses, but made sure I got a picture of the sunset. (Probably should have been the other way around!)

PS- The picture of the icicle was taken with my phone. I gotta stop using my phone! It just isn't the same quality as my camera, so I'm going to try to carry my camera with me as much as possible!
